Nde’feyo celebrates legacy-Malawi Music Downloader

Saturday night was a time for music lovers to experience music while going down the memory lane with performances by three artists that continue to carry Nde’feyo’s legacy long after they terminated their record deal with the label.

The Lilongwe show reunited Onesimus, Piksy and Maskal who had once signed record deals with the label to mark the start of their music journeys. The three are among the most renowned musicians in the local music industry.

The venue, Illusionz, was buzzing with an eager audience and the place glowed with expectation as the show started later than the scheduled time.

While the event was scheduled to start at 8pm, things only rolled into gear around 10pm.

As the first to perform, Onesimus certainly set the stage for an unforgettable evening of music, from the melodies of Ndamusowa to the Afro-pop rhythms of WyDoMeSo, the audience was immersed in his performance.

The show continued with solo performances by Pisky and Maskal. However, a joint performance by the two when they performed the song titled Wa CV, a piece they collaborated on years back, truly stole the show.

While the two performed, the interaction between them as they set the stage on fire created an unforgettable experience with the audience actively singing along to every beat.

During his set, Piksy performed some of his popular hits Itsanana, Unamata, Uncle Short One and other hit songs that he released under the Nde’feyo record label.

Maskal, who has been out of the country and went silent for a long time, entertained the audience with his hit singles Zili ndi Iwe, The Way You Are and some hits from his Nthawi album such as Hey.

Judging from the list of songs performed at the Nde’feyo Legacy show by the three artists, one cannot help but appreciate how the show transitioned into a down the memory lane extravaganza, allowing the audience to enjoy old tunes.

However, during the show some fans expressed disappointment with the sound system, saying it was not audible enough, while others said the space was small for such a show.

“You only get clear sound when you are closer to the stage, otherwise it is impossible to get the clear sound once you move further from the stage,” said Mike Soko, one of the fans at Illusionz.

In an interview, Maskal acknowledged the support from fans, saying he will work on music projects before going back to America.

He said: “After a long time, I feel loved and blessed to still have all these people show up and still enjoying the music. It is amazing to see how people are appreciating music, it is fun to be an artist right now.

“I will have to do a lot of music going forward, I have songs that I have to put out now that I’m here as an appreciation to my fans reminding them that I am still around.”

The Udalire hit-maker is expected to be in Malawi for a month and while at it he will be making appearances and performing.

On his part, Onesimus recognised Nde’feyo’s contribution to his music journey and how significant the Nde’feyo Legacy show was.

“I really appreciate the reunion after so many years, this is one of the incredible journeys we have ever come together to do, Nde’feyo has given us a platform in the country and as a label they have tried to achieve what other record labels cannot achieve,” he said.
