South Africa-based Malawian forward Frank Gabadinho Mhango has survived a massive clear-out at DStv Premiership outfit Moroka Swallows.
The clear-out saw the Johannesburg-based side parting ways with 22 players ahead of the 2023/24 season second round.
It also comes after a dispute between the Dube Birds and their players over dues, which led to the club failing to honour two league matches against Mamelodi Sundowns and Lomontiville Golden Arrows last month.
The league awarded the matches to their opponents by 3-0 margins and Swallows were fined R1 million, with the better part of it being suspended.
The club then held its own disciplinary hearing which led to the clear-out.
Names of the released players were published by some South African media outlets at the weekend.
In an interview yesterday, Mhango said he could not comment much on management’s decision.
He said: “It is rather a sensitive and internal issue, but what I can say is that I have a running contract with the club.”
The Swallows are 11th in the 16-team league.
The 31-year-old joined Swallows from AmaZulu FC on a two-year deal in August last year.
