Jamaican reggae icon Luciano is set to perform in Malawi on October 28 2023.
Jah Kings Promotions, organisers of the reggae concert, have confirmed that they will host the Jamaican to perform in the country at the Jah Kings Reggae concert set for Grand Business Park along the Lilongwe West By pass Road.
This will be the second time for Luciano, popularly known as Jah Messenger, to perform in the country after he performed at Silver Stadium in 2015.
In an interview, Jah Kings Promotions managing director Richard Chisala said discussions are at advanced stage with Luciano’s management team.
“I can confirm that the Jah Messenger will perform in the country. Currently, we are working on procurement of air tickets for Luciano and his team,” said Chisala who is based in the United Kingdom, but is currently in the country to prepare for the concert.
Born Jepther McClaymont, Luciano is a devoted rastafarian whose lyrics promote consciousness and is expected to perform in Malawi alongside other well-known Jamaican artists such as Everton Blender and Iqulah Rastafari. They will be backed by the Tuff Lions Band International.
About the concert, Chisala said they have organised it to promote unity and collaboration of reggae artists from Jamaica and Malawi.
“The concert is also about celebrating reggae music and creating an opportunity for reggae music fans to interact with some of their favourite reggae artists,” he said.
One of the local reggae artists set to perform at the show, Blasto expressed excitement at being chosen as one of the local headliners.
“It is good to be counted among the stars. I grew up being inspired by Luciano’s music. Sharing the stage with him will be awesome,” he said.
Commenting on the show, events organiser Manfred Ndovie said the show will provide a rare opportunity for people in the country to enjoy pure reggae music.
Tickets for the shows have already gone on sale online. The organisers have since partnered Castel Malawi and Zodiak Broadcasting Station ahead of the show.
