Matafale Memorial on next week-Malawi Music Downloader

The Matafale Memorial Festival will take place on November 26 at Singano Village in Chileka, Blantyre, organisers have said.

Speaking in an interview, Black Missionaries Band leader Anjiru Fumulani said they have set an independent committee to ensure that the event is unique and memorable.

“The committee will look at security, stage, equipment and logistics,” he said.

Anjiru, a cousin of the late Evison Matafale, said they are proud that the late reggae star’s music still rules and resonates with the youth.

“We have young people who were born after Matafale’s death, but you will find that they resonate with his music. That proves that his music transcends generations and he deserves to be celebrated,” he said.

Anjiru further said that Matafale was visionary and had a clear agenda about how he wanted to use his music.

“Look at Olenga Dzuwa, for example. When you listen to the song, it feels like he is talking about the hardships that we are experiencing today. His compositions are timeless,” he said.

Anjiru said he hopes Matafale’s fans will attend the 21st memorial show. Evison Matafale died on November 27 2001 while in police custody.

Commenting on the event, one of Matafale’s music fans Robert Phiri said he hopes the event will be peaceful so that people can remember the artist and enjoy his music once again.

“I have attended all, but two of the memorial shows. My only concern is security. I hope that is well taken off this year,” he said.
