A Malawian record producer, Tapiwa "Tapps" Bandawe says he has signed a 10-year deal with the global digital stores and streaming sites which will monetize and promote the country's artists on the international level.
Bandawe has told Zodiak Online that the deal gives the artists an opportunity to distribute music in over 250 digital outlets such as, Sportify, Itunes and Amazon.
Through this, Malawian musicians will also be appearing in films and documentaries.
"Basically, which means now is that Malawian music as long as they are with us, they will go on main digital platforms in the world. And also, Malawian music can be monetized such as, if the music is played on Ticktock or YouTube they will be paid through this medium. They will have a finger print ID. Unlike in the past where everyone was just downloading the music," he said.
He adds that he is working with various embassies for the signed artists to perform in various festivals outside.
The renowned producer has also disclosed that through the Ministry of Culture and Copyright Society of Malawi (COSOMA), he has recorded and uploaded on the internet volume one of the Malawian cultural and folklore music in eight districts like Phalombe, Zomba, Lilongwe and Karonga.
"People will be able to listen to our local original music in the digital platforms", he disclosed.
