The newly introduced alcoholic spirits brand CapeStars owes its inspiration to Cape Maclear in the lakeshore district of Mangochi.
On Sunday, producers of the CapeStars spirits, HS Winehouse Beverages and Hospitality, took the opportunity to bring their spirit brand where it owes its origins.
Leading the excursion was local amapiano star Zeze Kingston, who alongside his celebrity partner Dorothy Shonga led a street carnival parade around Cape Maclear before setting out on a boat ride on Lake Malawi that ended with a mix and mingle event at Anchors Bay on Thundu Island.
Throughout the boat ride, the Alamu Anu star kept the travelling party-goers entertained with renditions of some of his compositions such as Chule, Mphaka and Ndasankha Kusangalala.
Upon arrival at Thundu Island, the fun seekers had an opportunity to interact and pose for pictures with the celebrity couple, which has commonly come to be known as The Kingstons.
The CapeStars experience for the Cape Maclear dwellers was not limited to Thundu Island alone as locals who failed to make it for the boat ride also had a moment of fun when Zeze Kingston staged a cameo performance at the Fisheries Entertainment joint just close to the beach.
Throughout his short gig, his fans mobbed him as they scrambled for an opportunity to either get a video or a selfie with him.
When he brought his performance to an end, the disillusionment among many was evident. They wanted more from Zeze Kingston.
HS Winehouse Beverages and Hospitality director Wilkins Mijiga said the homecoming event allowed the CapeStars spirits to reconnect with its ancestors as its spirit is deeply rooted in the essence of Cape Maclear.
He called the experience a spiritual sojourn.
“Cape Maclear generates high affinity and attraction to Malawians and foreigners alike. Any great activity staged here had a ready and avid audience,” said Mijiga.
He paid tribute to the people of Cape Maclear for giving the brand a warm reception befitting the return of a child to his home. He also thanked The Kingstons for their efforts during the excursion.
